ANNAPOLIS, Md. Rockwell Collins won a seven-year contract to provide oceanic data link (ODL) service to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), that will will enable real-time data communications between air traffic controllers and pilots.
Under the contract, Rockwell Collins will provide ARINC data link service to the FAA’s control centers in Anchorage, New York, and Oakland.
The traffic control centers will be able to conduct standard procedures on future air navigation system equipped aircraft. Data transmission will also allow FAA personnel to track the aircraft periodically while traveling out of radar range.
Rockwell Collins also works with the FAA to provide oceanic voice service and domestic data link services for the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transport System (NextGen) initiative.
