PORTSMOUTH, United Kingdom. Newport News Shipbuilding (NSS) officials selected the Paramarine Ship and Submersible Design Software from Qinetiq as NSS's primary naval architectural software. The software will be used for all ships designed and built at NSS shipyard, including the U.S. Navy’s latest class of aircraft carriers. It will also support submarine research and development.
Newport News Shipbuilding purchased a Team Paramarine License, which enables multiple users to work concurrently on one design and has an auditing feature for subsequent design approval. A number of training courses have already been delivered to the naval architecture team at the shipyard’s training facility at Newport News, covering surface ship and submarine new user and early stage design.
Paramarine is based on 20 years’ experience in marine design and leverages a number of submarine specific analyses in one product.
Newport News Shipbuilding is currently building the new FORD-class aircraft carriers and VIRGINIA-class fast-attack submarines, as well as performing refueling and complex overhauls on NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers.
