Navy awards BAE $192 million contract for post-construction work on Zumwalt-class ships

ARLINGTON, Va. The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to perform post-construction work aboard the guided-missile destroyers USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) and USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001). The contract's initial award is worth $10.3 million and carries a maximum value of $192.7 million for work performed through September 2021.
Under the new contract, BAE Systems' San Diego shipyard will support the installation and completion of the ships’ combat systems and perform post-construction hull, mechanical, and electrical enhancements. The shipyard also will support work deemed necessary following the ships’ demonstration cruises, certification of their combat systems, and final sea trials. In addition, the BAE Weapons Systems unit will work on the ships’ gun systems and install the ships’ Mk 57 vertical launch setup.
BAE Systems will begin work on the Zumwalt next month, while outfitting of the Michael Monsoor will begin after the ship is delivered to the Navy. The Zumwalt was commissioned into active service in October and now is en route to its home port in San Diego. The Michael Monsoor is currently under construction in Bath, Maine, and will also be home-ported in San Diego.
