Like sensor/weapon controls operators don’t already have enough on their mind – and they also have to remember to bring that extra flashlight so they can use their systems’ consoles once nighttime arrives or a room darkens. That could be one reason why Global Lighting Technologies (GLT) developed its ultra-thin light guides, which backlight touch-enabled or membrane switches for myriad applications. Leveraging LED edge-lighting technology, the ultra-thin light guides render illumination of on/off buttons, directional systems, touch pads, rotary switches, logos, sliders, and other large or small graphic icons.
Working to help relieve operator errors and frustrations, the light guides’ “extreme thinness” is key to their effectiveness. They are slipped in between the graphic overlay and circuit sensor or PC board and voila! And since precision is key in most apps – and particularly the mission-critical – the light guides’ insertion will not lower application touch sensitivity. So maybe it’s time to kick that extra flashlight to the curb.
