Air Force Research Lab calls for innovative alternative-energy options

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio. The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Advanced Power Technology Office (APTO) has issued a call for innovative alternative energy and energy-efficient technology solutions in a broad agency announcement, published recently on the Federal Business Opportunities website.
The stated mission of APTO is to guide the development and execution of advanced technology demonstrations that support a comprehensive framework for efficient and alternative energy assurance projects that can be replicated across the Air Force.
“What we are looking for is advanced power and alternative energy demonstrations to enable future missions,” said Capt. Randall Hodkin, APTO program manager. “These products should maintain a focus on energy resiliency, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability with a demonstration and evaluation at around a Technology Readiness Level six.” (The Department of Defense defines Technology Readiness Level six as a model or prototype demonstration in a relevant environment.)
The call for solutions, titled “Advanced Power Technology Office – Energy Innovation,” (FA8650-16-S-5001), is open until August 21, 2017, and can be found at the Federal Business Opportunities website: www.fbo.gov.
