Lockheed Martin obtains $74 million in Navy contract modifications

BETHESDA, Md. Lockheed Martin has won two contract modifications worth approximately $73.9 million (combined) from the U.S. Navy to provide materials and services to support the low-rate initial production (LRIP) of F-35 Lightning II combat aircraft.
Under the terms of the first contract modification, this one worth $43.9 million, the Defense Department reports that Lockheed will provide long-lead parts and components for an additional five Lot 12 F-35B fighter jets. The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) expects work on these aircraft to occur in Texas, California, Florida, Maryland, New Hampshire, plus the U.K. and Japan, through December 2017.
The second modification calls for Lockheed to provide additional hardware assembly and engineering services for the production of Lot 11 F-35 jets for the Japanese government; this arrangement will occur under a separate $30 million contract modification as part of a foreign military sales program. The company will perform work on the Lot 11 jets in Japan and Maryland through December 2018.
