FAA certifies ADS-B Out to meet 2020 mandated deadline

FORT WORTH, Texas. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials granted Rockwell Collins Part 25 approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML-STC) for the Applied Avionics-built Automatic dependent surveillance ? broadcast (ADS-B) Out.
The ADS-B technology initially built by Applied Avionics and integrated by Rockwell Collins. FAA officials have mandated a 2020 deadline for ADS-B Out requirements. This certification path covers multiple aircraft models from Bombardier, Gulfstream Aerospace, Sabreliner Aviation and Textron Aviation and includes the latest variant of the TDR-94/94D Mode S Transponder.
Both Part 25 and Part 23 certifications can utilize a VIVISUN ADS-B Out Annunciator configured with an internal ARINC 429 discrete signal converter as a solution. The annunciator with ARINC converter responds directly to the ARINC 429 data bus and provides an "ADS-B FAIL" indication to the pilot eliminating the need for any additional hardware.
Craig Morgan, Senior Vice President with Applied Avionics, says, “To help ease supply chain concerns we are stocking common configurations of our VIVISUN ADS-B Out annunciators that are available to ship the next business day, including the configuration specified in both Rockwell Collins' Part 25 and Part 23 AML-STCs.”
This certification is in addition to the Part 23 AML-STC that Rockwell Collins announced in February 2018. ADS-B is surveillance technology used by aircraft that enables its position to be tracked.
