Real-time video streaming for Army helicopter cockpits designed by Rockwell Collins

WASHINGTON. Engineers at Rockwell Collins engineers designed a solution called Secure Real Time Video (SRTV) that enables warfighters to see real-time video from an unmanned aircraft directly in the cockpit of their military helicopter. The company recently delivered it to the Army to support its Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) operations. Rockwell Collins made the announcement this week at AUSA in Washington.
“Giving Army pilots access to real-time video streams in their cockpits will directly improve their ability to successfully execute missions more safely and efficiently,” says Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins.
As part of the program, Rockwell Collins engineers integrated the necessary MUM-T capabilities via the integration of a third-party Common Data Link transceiver. The work used the open systems architecture design and interfaces provided by the company’s Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS), enabling integration of video and mission data from unmanned aircraft.
The CAAS integrated avionics solution is based on the principles of open systems and widely adopted industry standards. For more on CAAS and Rockwell Collins, read "New aircraft production down, avionics upgrade funding steady."
