More than $1 Billion in avionics and sensors for Navy helicopters to be provided by Lockheed Martin

WASHINGTON. Lockheed Martin won a billion dollar Navy contract to deliver more than 200 digital avionics cockpits as well as sensors and integrated mission systems for the MH-60S Sierra and MH-60R Romeo helicopters ? both of which are manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft, in Stratford, Conn.
Under the contract the Romeo – an anti-submarine warfare helicopter -- will get 162 cockpits, sensors, and integrated missions systems. The Navy also will fund procurement of 62 digital cockpits for Sierra helicopters, which provide ship-to-ship cargo resupply, close-in ship defense, and search and rescue operations.
The multi-year structure of the contract as opposed to an annual contract enables Lockheed Martin to provide more than 10 percent in savings annually, which would surpass the Pentagon’s cost forecasts, says Dan Spoor, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors vice president of aviation systems.
