New avionics-focused business unit formed by Curtiss-Wright Controls

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Officials at Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc. in Charlotte, N.C., have restructured their Integrated Sensing business to focus more on avionics and global aerospace applications. The group is now called the Avionics & Electronics (CWC-AE) division, which will be based in Christchurch, United Kingdom.
The CWC-AE division’s focus will be on developing and designing recording, rugged data acquisition, controller and air data sub-system solutions. The new group separates the Avionics & Electronics business from Integrated Sensing group (CWC-IS) -- headquartered in Irvine, Calif. -- where it was integrated prior to the re-organization.
Curtiss-Wright wants to own the market for aircraft sensor data management and the re-organization enables the company to offer more subsystem avionics solutions, says David Adams, the co-chief operating officer of Curtiss-Wright Corp.
The CWC-AE division consists of four business units: Autronics in the U.S.; Penny & Giles Avionics in the U.K.; Acra in Ireland; and SES in the UK. The division’s product line includes COTS designs for applications such as rugged computing, airborne recording, flight testing, as well as space applications.
The CWC-IS division is made up of five business units: Tempe and Long Island in the U.S.; Stratford in Canada, Christchurch, and Wales in the UK; and a manufacturing facility in Nogales in Mexico. The division produces rotary and linear flight-critical low-powered actuation products, that have clutches, gear heads, clutches, integral position sensing, and brakes.
