?RLAND MAIN AIR STATION, Norway. Norway recently took delivery of three F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft, with NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenburg and Norway's king in attendance.
Ørland Main Air Station is a key component of NATO’s air defense in the European North Atlantic region and is home to several of NATO’s AWACS [airborne warning and control system] aircraft.
The modern jets -- ordered and received from Lockheed Martin -- represent, said Stoltenburg, the fact that "NATO gets an ally in the work to strengthen the [NATO] alliance.”
Norway plans to buy at least 40 and as many as 52 of the new F-35s, with the jets due to replace the country’s current fleet of F-16s between the latest delivery and 2025.
