F-35 carrier variant production model completes first sortie

FORT WORTH, Texas. Lockheed Martin's first F-35C carrier variant production model -- also known as CF-6 -- completed its first sortie. Once the jet fighter is delivered later this year, it will be assigned to U.S. Navy Fighter Attack Squadron 101 (VFA-101) located at Eglin AFB, FL.
The unit will function as the Fleet Replacement Squadron, training Navy F-35C pilots and maintainers. CF-6 is the first carrier variant F-35 assigned to Eglin, but not the first F-35. The jet it will join a fleet of nine F-35A conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) aircraft and 13 F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) jets already on station.
