ATK, KADDB deliver first modified CASA-235 light gunship to Jordan

ARLINGTON, VA. ATK, in cooperation with King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB), has delivered the first modified CASA-235 light gunship aircraft to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

ATK began the U.S.-based flight and gun test program in fall 2013, to validate and test the performance of the gunship, including sensor and weapons testing. ATK was then awarded a contract by KADDB to modify two of Jordan’s CASA-235 transport aircraft into highly capable and cost-effective special mission aircraft.

ATK, in collaboration with KADDB, developed the aircraft modifications and system integration to transform a CASA-235 cargo plane into a multi-mission gunship. Modifications included the installation of aircraft self-protection equipment, an electro-optical targeting system, a laser designator, a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and an armaments capability that provides sustained firepower. The ATK-supplied gun is powered by the fire-control system, which automatically links the gun’s aim point to the selected target of interest by using the laser designator.

"The delivery of this light gunship is a significant achievement for the program and our collaborative partnership with KADDB and Jordan," said Mike Kahn, Senior VP and President of ATK's Defense Group. "We brought together our strong weapon and mission systems expertise from across ATK Defense to provide this important multi-mission gunship capability to our allies."

The completed CASA-235 aircraft has been delivered and will be exhibited during the Special Operations Conference and Exhibition (SOFEX) from May 6-8 in Amman, Jordan.
