FAIRFIELD, California. Lockheed Martin officials dropped off their latest modernized C-5M Super Galaxy with the U. S. Air Force last week at Travis Air Force Base (AFB) in Fairfield.
The C-5 was transported by a Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) aircrew from the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, to Travis AFB, where it will be permanently based. It will be the 12th Super Galaxy assigned to Travis.
The restored aircraft, which was blessed with U. S. Air Force serial number 86-0026, was originally delivered to the Air Force back in June 1988 and since has recorded about 20,230 flight hours over its career. This C-5M was delivered more than six weeks ahead of the contract commitment delivery date.
