LOS ANGELES. Slingshot Aerospace has won a $6 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) to rapidly prototype and deploy machine-learning (ML) capabilities that are aimed at boosting a variety of enterprise space battle-management mission needs.

According to company officials, Slingshot’s multidomain tool set, Orbital Atlas, will enable warfighters to evolve from traditional space situational-awareness techniques that focus mostly on space catalog maintenance and move toward a more tactical, predictive, and evidence-driven solution.

The Orbital Atlas tool is a predictive-modeling engine that applies ML to handle massive amounts of data from space observation data and data streams to characterize patterns and predict events enabling warfighters, analysts, and senior decision-makers to make better mission-critical decisions at a more accelerated pace.

SMC’s Space Superiority Systems Directorate exercised its 2019 contract option with Slingshot Aerospace and expanded the value over a two-year contract period.
