Quantum computing funding awarded to Raytheon BBN Technologies by IARPA

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Officials at the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) awarded Raytheon BBN Technologies $2.2 million worth of funding under the Quantum Computer Science (QCS).
The QCS program’s goal is to create methods and tools that integrate all aspects of a quantum computer -- from hardware to software -- in one framework – that results in unified resource management and realistic performance assessment. This process will then enable more informed decisions about where to ongoing quantum computing research and development should be directed. Other program partners include NEC, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Melbourne.
Quantum computers could outperform traditional computers in the future with improved security and considerably faster processing speeds. Quantum computing might also provide a way to decode common encryption keys significantly quicker than current computers, breaking codes in hours that would normally take decades with today's technology.
