UAS project at DoD's Defense Innovation Unit chooses intelligent vision provider

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. The U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD's) Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has chosen intelligent-vision maker Immervision (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) to develop and supply a wide-angle computer vision camera for small unmanned aerial systems (sUASs) as part of the DoD's Blue UAS Framework effort.
The Immervision camera is expected to enable advanced low-light vision for the unmanned vehicles developed under the Blue UAS Framework; the DIU project is aimed at providing affordable, trusted, high-performing, and interoperable UAS technologies for both defense and commercial applications.
Alessandro Gasparini, executive vice president, operations, and chief commercial officer of Immervision, said of the DIU win: “We are honored that the Defense Innovation Unit has chosen Immervision’s InnovationLab to create this innovative wide-angle computer vision camera optimized for drones in low-light vision and autonomous flight. Immervision’s technology has been widely adopted in aerospace, surveillance systems, and for consumer electronics for over 20 years. We look forward to working with the DIU to deliver secured, highly advanced sUAS camera(s) for the U.S. Department of Defense’s applications.”
