NAVAIR opts for all-electronic FMU-139D/B fuze from Orbital ATK

DULLES, Va. Officials at the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command selected Orbital ATK for first article testing, qualification, and production of FMU-139D/B fuzes and accessories. The contract is estimated at $426 million.
The FMU-139D/B, an all-electronic bomb fuze will be used on precision-guided munitions, according to company officials. Work will be performed at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) facility in Rocket Center, West Virginia and at Orbital ATK’s design facility in Plymouth, Minnesota.
The Navy and Marine Corps are obligated an initial amount of $24 million at the time of the award.
