LONDON. The military unmanned vehicle market is set to deliver 7% growth between 2019 and 2024, driven mainly by unmanned surface vehicles, according to a recent study by GlobalData.
While the market is still dominated by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), GlobalData says, it is seeing an emerging trend toward use of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) in the maritime domain.
Nicolas Jouan, aerospace and defense analyst at GlobalData, says of the findings: “The benefits of unmanned naval systems are numerous. A large amount of missions currently completed by manned vessels could potentially be filled by autonomous systems for smaller costs and equivalent reliability. Surveillance, transport, antisubmarine warfare, electronic warfare, and area denial are potential domains of operations for unmanned naval systems.”
