Mayport named FOB for MQ-4C Triton UAS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The U.S. Navy has named Naval Station Mayport (Jacksonville, Florida) as the forward operating base (FOB) for its fleet of MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft systems (UASs). As the east coast FOB, Mayport will act as the launch and recovery site for four forward-based MQ-4C Triton UAS and will be the consolidated maintenance hub for up to four additional aircraft.
Mayport will be a permanent duty station for about 400 Triton UAS personnel and will support rotating deployments outside the continental U.S. Construction on the Mayport UAS facility will begin later in 2017, with the first Triton scheduled to arrive in 2020.
The Triton UAS is is a multiple-sensor, unmanned, unarmed, remotely controlled aircraft used to augment maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data collection as part of the U.S. Navy's Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Force. The Triton -- at 48 feet long, with a wingspan of 131 feet -- will conduct operations over water, with most operations occurring over international waters 12 miles or more offshore.
