ISR specialist ForceX acquired by L-3 Communications

NEW YORK. L-3 Communications leaders announced that the company acquired ForceX, Inc., in Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this month and since renamed it L-3 ForceX and integrated it into L-3’s Integrated Sensor Systems (ISS) sector within the Electronic Systems business segment.
Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, but the acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive, according to L-3 officials.
L-3 ForceX specializing in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) mission management software and geospatial application technology programs, providing products, such as cueing system software, hardware and video algorithms, and wide-area sensor integration solutions and software. The company’s processing, exploitation, and dissemination (Tactical PED) technology creates an integrated tactical operational picture, enabling real-time decision making.
The business currently supports Department of Defense ISR initiatives and classified programs. Customers include the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Special Operations Command, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, and other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies.
L-3 ForceX is expected to add about $30 million in sales for the year ending December 31, 2016. Goodwill and other intangible assets from this acquisition are expected to be deductible for income tax purposes. L-3 employs about 45,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in aerospace systems and national security solutions with reported 2014 sales of $12.1 billion.
