CUTLASS counter-threat UGV released by Northrop Grumman

LONDON. The CUTLASS Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) has been released by Northrop Grumman Corporation. The CUTLASS unmanned ground system is based on a modular design and enables remote surveillance and handling of hazardous threats.
Developed and manufactured in the U.K., the CUTLASS design allows it to accommodate a range of tools, sensors, and payloads. CUTLASS comes equipped with a state-of-the-art, three-fingered manipulator arm with nine degrees of freedom for performing explosive ordnance removal operations that typically require the use of two UGVs. The onboard, specialized sensing system also provides high levels of dexterity and control.
CUTLASS is a six-wheeled platform suited for all terrains and condition, and can attain speeds of nearly 7.5 mph. Because the UGV can carry multiple sensors and tools, the need to return to a control/command station is reduced.
"CUTLASS … is more dexterous, cost effective and, as a package, four times faster than any other UGV," says Greg Roberts, Managing Director of Defense and Security at Northrop Grumman Information Systems Europe. "The vehicle is already in service across the U.K. and has proven itself to be robust and capable in the most demanding environments."
CUTLASS will be on exhibit at the Counter Terror Expo in Olympia, London from April 24-25. The demonstration will be led by Peter Green, Program and Future Development Manager, Northrop Grumman, and will provide an examination of the changing roles of UGVs and an overview of the CUTLASS platform.
