Lynx radar simulation tool released by GA-ASI

SAN DIEGO. Engineers at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA ASI) unveiled a new radar training tool called the Tactical Airborne Reconnaissance Simulator (TARS). TARS enables operators of Lynx Multi-mode Radar systems to train via a software-based tool on a laptop computer.
The TARS software makes uses of satellite imagery as well as 3D models to create Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)-like products in real-time, cutting down on the use of expensive operational imagery for training, GA-ASI officials say.
Lynx instructors using TARS – which GA-ASI funded internally -- can conduct simulated SAR/Ground Moving Target Indicator (/GMTI) exercises that use real-world combat scenarios and use a cross-cueing capability between the Lynx radar and a Full-Motion Video (FMV) camera system.
Instructors also can create scenarios from scratch for multi-sensor Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) simulation.
