Intel 4th gen Core i7-based 3U VPX board released by Concurrent Technologies
NewsJune 07, 2013
WOBURN, MA. Engineers at Concurrent Technologies announced that their first processor board based on the new quad-core 4th generation Intel Core processor family -- aka Haswell. The TR B12/msd is a 3U VPX single-board computer that features the new i7-4700EQ device -- based on 22nm process technology -- and its associated mobile Intel QM87 Express chipset.
The 3U board has as much as 16 Gbytes of DRAM and an assortment of I/O interfaces. It board designed for high-end compute intensive applications in military embedded, aerospace, and transportation systems for control systems, acquisition, and video signal processing. The device has enhanced CPU and graphics performance over previous generations at TDP levels as high as 47W. New instructions also are introduced, including: the Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 2.0 (Intel AVX) for performance improvements in integer and floating-point-intensive computations; and the Intel AES New Instructions (Intel AES-NI) improvements to accelerate data encryption and decryption in hardware.
"The TR B12/msd is an upgrade to our current products and is suitable as both an upgrade path for existing applications as well as new projects,” says Glen Fawcett, CEO, Concurrent Technologies.
The TR B12/msd has as much as 16 Gbytes DDR3L DRAM with ECC, 4 x SATA600 mass storage interfaces, serial and USB interfaces on-board SATA Flash, graphics, and stereo audio interfaces. The I/O interfaces may be further expanded by adding an XMC module. The board supports a configurable control plane fabric interface (VITA 46.6) and a flexible PCI Express (PCIe) data plane fabric interface (VITA 46.4) supporting as much as Gen 3 data rates and can be used in systems defined by OpenVPX (VITA 65).
The TR B12/msd processor board is released as a commercial air-cooled board, while later releases will include dual-core processor options and ruggedized variants. For more information, visit http://www.gocct.com/products.
