ST. LOUIS. In a demonstration conducted between the U.S. Navy and Boeing, engineers integrated the mission system of an EA-18G electronic attack aircraft with a targeting processer, data link, and a Window-based tablet to show that it can detect targets over distances and share information.

“This enhanced targeting capability provides our aircrews with a significant advantage, especially in an increasingly dense threat environment where longer-range targeting is critical to the fight,” says Capt. David Kindley, U.S. Navy F/A-18 and EA-18G program manager.

Officials say that integrating the tablet device with the mission system was a first for a Navy platform. Upgrades will be retrofitted to existing Growlers and the technology will be included as a standard.
