Radar technology from Cassidian to be provided to Canadian air force

UNTERSCHLEISSHEIM, Germany. Cassidian engineers will be equipping Royal Canadian air force airfields with new airport surveillance radars. Canadian contracting authority Public Works and Services Canada officials tasked Cassidian with delivering seven of its ASR NG airport surveillance radars to enhance flight safety on Canadian airbases and to improve military aviation integration into civil air traffic.
"The radar provides outstanding performance for wide-area surveillance around airbases as well as safe guidance of individual aircraft during take-off and landing," says Simon Jacques, Head of Cassidian Canada. "Our ASR NG guarantees outstanding performance so that even very small objects such as ultra-lightweight aircraft or even flocks of birds can be reliably detected and classified."
Via its specific data processing software the ASR can track air traffic even in windfarm shadows. As a special feature, the ASR NG comprises the secondary radar MSSR 2000 I enabling reliable individual identification of more than a thousand aircraft at once.
Lockheed Martin Canada is partnering with Cassidian on this project.
