Northrop Grumman receives contracts to modernize Arleigh Burke-class DDGs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Northrop Grumman has been awarded contracts from General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Huntington Ingalls Industries, and the U.S. Navy to provide integrated bridge and navigation systems (IBNS) and steering gear systems to modernize Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers (DDGs).
Chart servers, flat panel displays, GPS, navigation software, radar systems, and ship control software/display systems will all be installed on the DDGs. Engineering services are also covered in the contracts.
"Northrop Grumman is a major partner on the Navy's DDG modernization program," comments the VP of Maritime Systems for Northrop Grumman, Bill Hannon. "The new IBNS and steering gear systems will keep the technology of our nation's front-line surface combatants highly capable and affordable."
The Navy will conduct back fit installation of the IBNS systems at the home ports of the vessels during modernization windows. For all new build ships, the IBNS systems and steering gear will be installed at the shipyards of Bath Iron Works and Huntington Ingalls. Deliveries of the modernized DDGs will begin in 2015 with an expected completion date of 2021.
