VPT, Inc. engineers developed and designed the DVPL0503S Point of Load DC-DC converter in such a way that it can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional isolated DC-DC converters as part of a distributed power system. The DVPL is a non-isolated, synchronous, buck-regulated converter that steps down the voltage at the point of end use. The DVPL is designed and built to military-grade reliability as defined in MIL-PRF-38534.
The DVPL0503S features a 3A (10 W) power output; the output voltage can be adjusted from 0.8 V to 3.4 V and can also operate from 5 V nominal input. The system – designed for full operation over the -55 °C to +125 °C military temperature range – is 100 percent hermetic with up to 95 percent efficiency, according to the company. The fault tolerant design comes with no optoisolators. The DVPL0503S comes with multiple circuit protection features, has a fixed switching frequency, and weighs in at 8 grams (max).
