Hypersonics programs in U.S. making steps toward production stage, study says

LONDON. Existing hypersonics programs in the U.S. are increasing in maturity and are likely to make major moves toward the production stage in 2021, according to a new report from GlobalData, "Hypersonic Technology in Aerospace and Defense."
According to the study authors, the U.S. is increasing spending to keep pace with geopolitical rivals China and Russia, which have both made large advances in hypersonic development in recent years. The U.S. is developing a number of hypersonic programs across its military branches with the aim of deploying key programs by the mid-2020s; the study findings assert that generating capability in this space will require developments in a number of associated technologies, especially in development of advanced scramjet engines.
William Davies, Associate Aerospace and Defense Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Several countries are seeking to leverage hypersonic technology for strategic advantage. There are significant opportunities for aerospace and defense companies in this market. Missile defense, in particular, is an area that will see a number of contract opportunities in coming years as agencies – including the missile defense agency – will receive increased funding to combat hypersonic advances by adversaries.”
