WOKING, U.K. TT Electronics has won a contract from BAE Systems for the design, development, and qualification of a DC/DC Converter to support Project Tempest, the fighter-aircraft concept under development in the United Kingdom for the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Italian Air Force.
The TT Electronics DC/DC unit will be used within the aircraft's flight-control system (FCS) to deliver power-conversion functionality to a number of elements within the FCS.
Ben Fox, Business Development Director, Power Solutions, for TT Electronics, said of the contract win: "BAE Systems are one of the most recognized names in the global defense industry and play a leading role in many of the world's most advanced military platforms. Our initial project is to supply the company’s facility in Warton [U.K] in support of Team Tempest. This exciting collaboration with BAE Systems provides an excellent opportunity to support our fellow industry partners, proudly working to revolutionize the development of combat air systems.”
The aircraft's development group -- dubbed Team Tempest -- is made up of industry partners including BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Leonardo, and MBDA. The industry group, together with the RAF's Rapid Capabilities Office and the U.K. Ministry of Defence, is working to introduce the Tempest combat aircraft into service by 2035, replacing the existing Typhoon.
