Elbit Systems Ltd. announced that it won a $43 million contract from Hanwha Systems Co. Ltd. to equip the Next-Generation Korean fighter jets in development with embedded Terrain Following-Terrain Avoidance (TF/TA) systems. The contract will be performed over a six-year period.

Honeywell is providing Leonardo's helicopter division with a cockpit upgrade — Honeywell's innovative Primus Epic 2.0 — for its AW139 helicopters. Boeing and the U.S. Navy flew two autonomously controlled, unmanned EA-18G Growlers at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland, Boeing announced. The flights were intended to prove that F/A-18 Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers can effectively run combat missions using unmanned systems.

The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing with an $84.1 million contract to integrate the advanced display core processor (ADCP) into the F-15 platform, according to the Department of Defense. The deal exercises an option in the original contract, awarded September 2018, that provides for the production and modification of the ADCP II boxes and related equipment in the F-15.

Two U.S. Air Force F-35s were integrated with the U.S. Army Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS), providing an airborne sensor capability to detect, track, and intercept near simultaneous air-breathing threats. The test marked the first time F-35s were used as sensors during an IBCS live fire test against multiple airborne targets.

A T-shirt definition of the word “helicopter” reads that the aircraft is: “A million parts rotating rapidly around an oil leak waiting for metal fatigue to set in.” While it may be a bit of an exaggeration, there are few machines in the world with so many rapidly spinning components—components that, when they spin erroneously, can cause catastrophic failures. Monitoring these components has been the job of helicopter Health and Usage and Monitoring Systems (HUMS). Born from tragedy over 30 years ago, HUMS has come a long way.
