SAN DIEGO. Phoenix International Systems, Inc., engineers released Self Encrypting Drive (SED) technology support for the company's RPC24 4004 Series Drive Magazine based, rugged storage solution at AFCEA West 2016 in San Diego this week.

The RPC24 4004 Series now supports TCG compliant and FIPS 140-2 certified AES 256 encryption as well as instant secure erase when it is configured with solid state disks and hard disk drives that have these capabilities.

Data security is a key component to any mass storage application and has been brought to the general public’s awareness with the recent data breaches at major corporations, retail companies, and government agencies to see the financial and security fallout from these attacks. For deployed military applications, data security has always been a priority and now due to new Commercial Off-TheShelf (COTS) options, data-at-rest security is even more efficient and affordable.

The Phoenix International RPC 4004 Series is available to users in a variety of configurations for 2.5 inch SSDs and 2.5-inch HDDs. Each RPC24 converged interface storage array includes two four-port controllers and can be configured in the field with eight 16Gb Fibre Channel ports, eight 10Gb iSCSI ports, or a combination of four 16Gb Fibre Channel and four 10Gb iSCSI ports.

IT managers use Fibre Channel for the storage network within the data center, and iSCSI for replication and other data management services outside of the data center. These storage arrays are fully backward-compatible with 8Gb/4Gb Fibre Channel and1Gb iSCSI networking solutions such as switches and host bus adapters. The RPC24 4004 12Gb SAS models are backward-compatible with 6Gb SAS investments.

All 4004 models are meta-data compatible with previous generation RPC24 arrays, so that users can accomplish data-in-place migration by simply upgrading to 4004 generation controllers.

The RPC24 4004 series has a storage capacity of 50TB+ that also includes two easily removable magazines containing up to twelve solid state disk or hard disk drives, each housed in rugged 2U (3.5”) panel height, 19.5” deep enclosure. It weighs only 51 lbs with a full complement of 24 SSDs, is less than 20” deep and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.

Phoenix International's SimulCache technology uses redundant RAID controllers, which eliminates the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring. The implementation of a high-speed dedicated PCI-Express bus streamlines write performance resulting in enhanced overall system responsiveness, driving faster application throughput. Dual-redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies, and dual fans bring uptime figures to 99.999 percent availability, so users don't experience downtime or data loss, company officials say.
