HYDERABAD, India. Biometrics will likely drive the advanced authentication market in the defense sector, as armies around the world increasingly use biometrics as a way to intensify battlefield awareness and handle encounters with bad actors who may be hidden in civilian populations, according to a recent market study by Mordor Intelligence, "Advanced Authentication Market in Defense Industry -- Growth, Trends, and Forecast (2019-2024)."

The study authors found that companies dealing with the defense sector are introducing advanced authentication -- including biometrics and iris scanners -- to thwart cyberattackers and protect sensitive intellectual property and intelligence.

In terms of market share, North America holds a significant share of the advanced authentication market, with the U.S. in the lead, followed by Canada. The study details the well-documented problem of counterfeit electronics in the U.S. military supply chain; counterfeit parts threaten national security and the lives of service members, which the study says is spurring growth in advanced authentication solutions in this area.
