Sales of MEMS units pass 5K mark, EMCORE says
Press ReleaseAugust 24, 2021
ALHAMBRA, Calif. EMCORE Corp. -- a maker of inertial-navigation equipment -- says that it has passed the 5,000-unit sales milestone for its dual-use SDI500 series MEMS [micro-electromechanical systems] inertial measurement unit [IMU], which is used in such applications as weapons guidance and targeting, fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial systems (UASs), and other high-precision defense, marine, and industrial areas,
According to the company announcement, the SDI500 series outperforms other MEMS IMUs and delivers comparable performance in a lower-power, smaller, and lighter form factor than older, costlier optical-style IMUs. The SDI500 series is aimed at meeting the high performance levels needed in critical systems by, the company says, leveraging industry-leading inertial MEMS technology to deliver outstanding Angle Random Walk (ARW) values of 0.02°/√hr.
