NATO AWACS fly with new avionics system from Rockwell Collins

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. Tests were completed on NATO Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft flying with the Rockwell Collins Flight2 avionics system.
Boeing’s upgrades to the flight deck replace the analog instruments with an avionics system that meets the 2020 Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) directive.
Under contract, Rockwell Collins engineers are providing large displays and controls, a new flight management system, and new communication and navigation equipment.
Boeing is under contract to provide NATO with an additional 13 AWACS aircraft upgrades. The U.S. Air Force AWACS first flight with these upgrades is expected in 2016.
