First Canadian CH-147 Chinook uses glass cockpit from Rockwell Collins

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA. The first CH-147 Chinook helicopter for Canada's armed forces features a Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) cockpit from Rockwell Collins. Its configuration has an enhanced system architecture and custom pilot-vehicle interface that meets the Canadian DND certification requirements.
CAAS displays enable tactical and flight situational awareness via embedded cognitive decision aids that cut down crew workload and enhance flight safety and survivability with a fault-tolerant design. The system also has embedded mission computing resources and mission systems software.
The Canadian CH-147 helicopter also has an upgraded electrical system, extended-range fuel tanks, and aircraft survivability equipment that will improve the Canadian military’s ability to operate in isolated, remote areas and enhance their disaster response capacity.
In-country life cycle support for the CH-147 avionics system will be provided by Rockwell Collins engineers in the company's Canadian headquarters in Kanata, Ontario.
