KILN, Miss. Skydweller Aero, a maker of large, autonomous solar-powered aircraft, reports that it accomplished the world's first successful autonomous/unmanned/uncrewed flight of a large solar-powered aircraft; during the flight from Stennis International Airport in Mississippi, the Skydweller uncrewed aerial system (UAS) took off, flew, and landed by itself without human intervention onboard or in control.

BIGFORK, Mont. Crewed/uncrewed avionics company uAvionix announced that it received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract to develop highly reliable command and control (C2) communications systems for uncrewed aircraft systems (UASs) used in extended beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations across challenging terrains.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. Autonomous aircraft company Reliable Robotics reported that it gained approval to participate in the 2024 AFWERX Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) program for the U.S. Air Force (USAF); the TACFI program was launced to “bridge the capability gap” between current Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) efforts to facilitate the delivery of strategic capabilities for the USAF.

SAN DIEGO. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) reports that it recently conducted a series of tests on its sonobuoy dispensing system (SDS) using the MQ-9B SeaGuardian uncrewed aerial system (UAS). 

TUCSON, Ariz. Raytheon (an RTX business) won a contract worth $1.2 billion contract to deliver Patriot air and missile-defense systems to Germany. The new systems will provide additional Patriot equipment for Germany's existing air defense infrastructure. 

AUSTIN, Tex. SparkCognition Government Systems (SGS), which provides artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for defense and national security, announced that it signed a contract with the Ohio Aerospace Institute through the Digital, Research, Innovation and Experimentation (D.R.I.V.E.) Consortium that aims to leverage AI to optimize the U.S. Air Force's supply chain.

SAN DIEGO. BAE Systems reports that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) awarded it an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract worth as much as $182 million to provide geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) Enterprise Modeling (GEM) Services, a suite of services referred to as "GEM Cutter."
