Artificial intelligence tech use, subject of meeting between U.S. and Singapore defense officials

SINGAPORE. Officials from the U.S. Department of Defense?s (DOD) Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) and Singapore?s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) got together for a a multi-day technology exchange to promote collaboration efforts involving artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on humanitarian assistance/disaster relief (HA/DR) applications. The meeting happened just prior to the Singapore Defence Technology Summit.
The Asia-Pacific region is prone to natural catastrophes, such as tropical cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, flooding, and volcanic eruptions that impact millions of people every year. Responses to these disasters often involve many agencies and multiple countries.
HA/DR missions are challenging responders leverage and advance AI technology and learn how to operationalize and integrate AI solutions across international organizations. W
This partnership between JAIC and DSTA will develop and foster the use of AI capabilities to enhance defense operations as well as aid in saving lives and livelihoods by reducing search and discovery timeframes and enabling more informed and timely resourcing decisions.
While this meeting focused primarily on HA/DR, the two organizations also discussed possible future partnerships between the United States and Singapore to leverage AI in other areas of mutual interest.
